DONATION PHILOSOPHY AND STRUCTURE

Torah Minyan is a labor of love for all who attend, including the religious leaders and Board of Directors all of whom donate their time without compensation for the joy of being in a God centered community. Nevertheless, we do have significant expenses which are covered by voluntary membership donations.

Our basic “full donation” amount is $1800 per year for a family and $900 per year for an individual, whether for in-person or zoom members, though many make contributions based on what they can afford.

This structure follows two principals articulated in the Torah:

  • The “half shekel” principal in Exodus 30:13: - “This is what everyone is to give, everyone who is counted: half a shekel…half a shekel, a contribution for Adonai.” Everyone is expected to make a contribution.
  • The “giving capacity” principal in Deuteronomy 16:16-17 – “…no one is to be seen at the presence of Adonai empty handed; but each according to the giving capacity of his/her hand according to the blessing that Adonai your God has given you.”
