Bar/Bat Mitzvah

We are pleased to offer the possibility for Torah Minyan members to celebrate a joyous, meaningful and fulfilling Bar or Bat Mitzvah during regular Shabbat services.  This opportunity is open to boys and girls at the appropriate age and to adults who did not have a Bar or Bat Mitzvah in their youth.  Knowledgeable volunteers at Torah Minyan are prepared to assist and instruct in learning to chant the relevant torah portion and the appropriate prayers.

There is no specific charge required for a Bar/Bat Mitzvah, however we do expect the families to make contributions to the Torah Minyan commensurate with the experience and their financial resources.

To have a Bar/Bat Mitzvah at Torah Minyan, there are certain initial commitments and requirements:

  • The person must be a REGULAR member. A regular member is someone who has attended services consistently (at least twice a month) for the previous six months, and who has made appropriate regular financial contributions to the Torah Minyan.
  • The person/family must demonstrate a serious intention to continue attending after the Bar/Bat Mitzvah.  We are not a “drive-by” Bar/Bat Mitzvah provider.  We are first and foremost a serious religious community and those who choose to celebrate this important life cycle event with us need to be part of that community.
  • All Bar/Bat Mitzvah children will be expected to read and chant from the Torah, be fluent in all the appropriate blessings and be prepared to do so at least two weeks before the Bar/Bat Mitzvah is held.  Those who have the skills to lead other parts of the service will be able to do so, pending approval by our Cantor.

Please read and understand THIS agreement.
